Artist of the Month: Toronto Rock/Alternative Band HARLOT Breaks into the Biz!
*Nicholas-Sean* has chosen the Artist of the Month...Harlot, from Toronto, Canada, takes you on a journey between "the realm of dark-fantasy and the rock world".
According to Harlot's MySpace page, Harlot takes "radio-friendly pop hooks and immerses them in a lifetime of pain".
When I first heard this band, I was immediately intrigued & hooked! I was able to relate to the music and it provided me with feelings I have never felt before. This band definitely rocks hard and with the help of it's lead singer, Annique, it provides powerful vocals!
Annique is my choice for this countries up-&-coming singer and songwriter.
"She gives life to a new sonic experience. She commands the live stage with her hard–rocking band, bold piano style, and melodic strings. Direct lyrics, genuine expression and elaborate band costumes create a “fairytale gone wrong” atmosphere. In concert, this tiny fairy-like creature delivers a surprisingly heavy wall of sound. Her size is misleading as her voice packs power. Her hazel eyes hypnotize and her vocal lines soar, emulating pixies tortured by primal screams. Her voice is strong enough to strip paint, sharp enough to cut you and make your mascara bleed. Simply put she doesn’t give a damn what you think. And harlots, by definition, walk their own walk." - Source: Harlot MySpace
Not only is this girl extremely talented but has also gained an international spotlight by winning this years "John Lennon Songwriting Contest" for the song "Maybe" (2007). She was also an honorable mention at this year's 13th Annual Billboard World Songwriting Competition for the songs "Leaving" and "Broken Angel" (2006).
