Branson broke out of a prison cell to parallel the fact that cell phone companies in Canada would not let you switch phone carriers and take your number with you. Branson said this is, "a day to celebrate in Canada!" - Source: CTV News
The CRTC (Canadian Radio & Television Committee) allowed Canadian cell phone carriers to block the rights of consumers from switching carriers and bringing their number with them elsewhere. Virgin Mobile Canada has a countdown clock on their website. They are telling customers that if they switch to Virgin, they will receive a free phone. Visit Virgin Mobile Canada at www.youcanswitch.ca for their countdown and massive Canadian campaign.
